A Day At Chester Zoo

Hello my lovelies!
Lately I've been aware many of my posts are very much beauty based however one thing I love about having a blog is being able to look back at important days and reminding myself of times. This is why I thought I'd go back to the style of post I used to write when I started my blog today. My trip to the zoo yesterday was the ideal excuse to type up a chattier lifestyle post for my online diary!

When my brother and sister-in-law received a years pass to enter Chester Zoo earlier this year I was so excited. As I hadn't been the Zoo in over eight years I was planning my self-invitation and how to persuade my Mum and Dad to take me too (yes, I am aware I'm twenty two..). As yesterday was my gorgeous nieces first birthday it was perfectly justified to gate crash their trip!

Luckily yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far! It's more than likely the day we pick to go out it absolutely pours down so it was definitely a treat to get such gorgeous weather and made the day that much better. As I'm not going abroad this year going the zoo felt like a little one day holiday, you could have definitely kidded yourself you were in a zoo in Spain as opposed to Chester.
When we arrived at the zoo we had a look round for a while, as my brother and his wife had been there twice recently they seemed to have an idea of where to go. We didn't have to worry about loosing sight of them if they went a little ahead as Isla had a big birthday balloon attached to her pram.. she definitely didn't want any attention!

One of the things that made our trip feel like a proper family day out was our packed lunch. My Mum had put together a few picnic-y snacks which we dug into whilst Isla had hers; my brother and sister-in-law had planned to buy a hot meal from the noodle bar at the zoo however they couldn't see anything they fancied so ended up sharing ours too (robbing buggers)!

Some of the animals we saw were the lions and giraffes! I love giraffes as they're such elegant creatures, their movements are just so graceful and distinguished. After watching Life At The Zoo on the telly and seeing a baby giraffe being born it was so exciting to see them up close and in life.
One of my dreams is to go to Rome and throw pennies in the fountain. Chester Zoo have their own take on this and had machines were you could form your own pennies to throw in the low lakes and waterfalls that were homed in the huts. I didn't get to throw a coin in myself however my brothers little family did and it was the cutest thing ever! Maybe one day I'll get to Rome to throw a coin in myself..or at least head back to Chester Zoo!

As well as the coin throwing, the Zoo had also added the most delightful garden area, somewhere that adults would enjoy if they were sick of seeing animals and face painting. As you see in the photos the area has lots of different parts, from apple and grape trees to bee hives; there was also a shrine dedicated to Aphrodite who is the Goddess of fertility, I unfortunately didn't get to see this, I'd loved to have gotten a few photos of it.
Just before leaving we nipped into the shop on the site, I love buying momentous from days out as a little reminder. I have a thing for pandas so I actually wanted one in cuddly toy form, however the price was a little much so I ended up with my monkey that I've decided to call Tom Hardy (as you do;)!). Isla got treated to a flamingo as at the moment they seem to be her favourite birds!

I loved going the Zoo and hopefully I'll visit again to see the rest!

Have you been the Zoo lately?

  11. Aw it sounds like you had a really lovely time, Charlotte! How lucky you were with the weather as well, when our family gets together, it usually rains as well haha! Seeing the elephants definitely would've been a highlight for me, they're such amazing creatures! Visiting Rome and the Trevi fountain is definitely on my bucket list as well, but how cute that you recreated this moment at Chester! So glad you enjoyed yourself - love your chatty / lifestyle content!
